The Roundup

The National Collectors Convention 2023 took place in Chicago (Rosemont) this weekend. The National is the World Series of sports collector’s events. If you have any good National stories, feel free to share them with the blog!

A family whose grandfather collected cards as a kid got the surprise of a lifetime when they realized their T206 Joe Doyle Hands Above Head New York Nat’l error card is worth more than $1 million. The card is far rarer than the better known T206 Honus Wagner. The card printer mixed up Doyle’s team and the team of another player named Doyle. Joe Doyle pitched for the N.Y. Highlanders (later the Yankees), whereas Larry Doyle played for the New York Nationals. Since the printer discovered the error early on, there are only about ten known cards that include N.Y. Nat’l on it. Robert Edwards Auction is selling the card in its summer event, taking place from July 24 - August 13. The current bid is $250,000.

Prospect of the Week: Jackson Holliday

Jackson Holliday, the son of 7-time all-star, has been the talk of the prospecting world since before being drafted #1 overall by the Orioles in 2022. The Athletic recently released its updated top prospects list, and Holliday overtook Jackson Chourio’s place at the top spot.
